Mysteries of the Brock Street Dig

Trent Valley Archives opens its new season of community activities by welcoming one and all to attend a free panel discussion on the stories from the Brock Street parking lot. The event takes place on Thursday, April 25, 2019, 7- 9 pm. at Highland Park Cemetery Visitor Centre, 2510 Bensfort Rd, Peterborough with the AGM to follow. Over the past 60 years, the Brock Street parking lot excavation has generated widespread attention from the archeological community and the public in general. A panel consisting of Doug Williams and Ann Taylor from Curve Lake, Susan Neale from the Peterborough Museum & Archives, Rita Granda from Trent University and moderated by Dirk Verhulst will each speak about their portion of the project which led to publishing the book The Ancestors Speak: Stories from the Brock Street Site. If you’re curious about what was uncovered there and why this site was disturbed 3 different times, come out and hear the experts. Their book will also be available. Refreshments will be served and the AGM will follow the discussion. Lakefield Horticultural Society Annual Plant Sale

The Lakefield Horticultural Society holds one plant sale each year to raise funds for our activities in Lakefield. The funds are used to purchase and plant the hanging baskets in the Village, the gardens in Cenotaph park, and around the Library. The spring plant sale is growing every year with more plant donations, more volunteers sharing tips with customers and good ‘ol camaraderie! This year promises to be bigger and better yet with a terrific selection of annuals, perennials, vegetables, and maybe even some trees and shrubs. Come to the Lakefield Cenotaph early for the best selection . Just over the bridge in Lakefield. Funds raised help the Society to beautify the Village. We run RAIN OR SHINE!

Riverview Park & Zoo Fun Run or Walk

The 10th Annual Riverview Park & Zoo Fun Run or Walk is a great family event for athletes, zoo enthusiasts, kids and parents alike! The 1 km & 5 km race route roams through the zoo, past the animals, along the beautiful Otonabee river and through the expansive Parkland. This is a great chance to get the whole family out for some physical activity. For your registration fee, you will receive a fun run T-shirt, a runner kit swag bag, a chance at door prizes provided by our event sponsors and all kids 1k Fun Run or Walk participants will receive 15th anniversary metals. (We do not ask runners to raise pledges). The Fun Run 1km race begins at 10 am with the 5 km timed race to follow. This year proceeds will go to support the major expansion and rehabilitation of the meerkat exhibit in the summer of 2019. Come out and enjoy this beloved local attraction with your whole family.

Every year the Society presents an excellent show of our communities beautiful flowers. Many flowers are bursting into bloom at this time of year such as begonias, carnations, pansies, Iris, petunias, phlox, roses, sweet peas, columbines, Canterbury bells, delphiniums etc. You must be a member to enter your flowers, so be sure to join up before the rose show.You don’t have to be a member to attend this terrific show and admission is free! We have many people exhibit their beautiful tulips, daffodils, bleeding hearts, iris and so many other spring flowers. There are also some beautiful arrangements designed by members using flowers from their gardens. A terrific showing of flowers as usual by our exuberant members. A great way to get the season going!
